‘Freedom is birthright’ campaign ends with grand regional rallies

Thiruvananthapuram: Popular Front’s one month long rights awareness campaign in Kerala- ‘Freedom is birthright’ concluded with grand rallies in three centers of Kerala today. Thousands of people including women poured in to Thiruvananthapuram, Perumbavur and Kozhikode where three regional rallies were held this evening ignoring scorching weather and vilification campaign by the vested interests in the state machinery, political leaders and media.

In Perumbavur thousands of people gathered near government hospital well before the scheduled time of 3 pm and held a rally and volunteers’ march despite the ban order from the district administration.
The volunteers march by Popular Front cadets attracted the attention of onlookers who were waiting on either sides of the roads and over the rooftops and vehicles. They praised the discipline and unity exhibited by the volunteers during the march.
Thousands of Popular Front activists and sympathizers followed the volunteers’ march raising slogan against the state discrimination towards Muslims and Dalits. They carried placards against corruption and injustice meted towards weaker sections of the society.

Popular Front workers from Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta and Alappuzha districts participated in the rally. On its way to Gandhi ground, where the valedictory public meeting was held, people gathered to have a glimpse of the historical march there. It went through Secretariat South Gate, Pulimoodu, Over bridge and Kizhakkekotta and concluded in the ground.

president Karamana Ashraf Moulavi chaired the conference. A S Ismail (Popular Front Tamilnadu president, P Aoorul Ameen, state council member, Thulaseedharan Pallikkal, state secretary od SDPI, Neelalohithadasan Nadar, Dr. M S Jayaprakash, Fathuddeen Rashadi, Adv. James Fernandes and Subhash Bose also addressed the mammoth gathering.
Public conference held at Perumbavur municipal ground has been inaugurated by K M Shareef, national general secretary of Popular Front. When justice is constantly denied, people will be forced to break the laws, he warned the authorities. National Council member Prof. P Koya delivered key-note address. Muhammed Isa Moulavi, treasurer of All India Imams Council, Sam Kutti Jacob, SDPI state treasurer, Reni Ilin, national coordinator NCHRO, K K Babu Raj, dalit activist, K K Husain and K Muhammadali also spoke at the cinference.

The rally at Kozhikkode began from Arayadathupalam and concluded at beach here through Mavoor road and C H Overbridge. Adv. K P Muhammed Shareef, national treasurer of Popular Front, inaugurated the public meeting. Adv. Rafeeq Kuttikkattoor, Ilyas Muhammed Thumbe, Popular Front president of the Karnataka, A Vasu, M K Manoj Kumar, state secretary of SDPI and others spoke at the occasion.
The ‘Freedom is birthright’ campaign was organized in the backdrop of police ban on Freedom Parade which was scheduled to be held at four towns of the state. The ban order given by the district collectors was on the basis of intelligence reports that there would be law and order problems in the regions. Three rallies marked the successful end of the campaign ‘Freedom is birthright’ which was held from 15th September to October 15.

There were no untoward incidents reported in connection with the rallies, as police and media propagated.
